Drawing and Painting are a tool for creative exploration that reflect a visual discovery of perceptions and ideas.
Our 3 Month short course is comprehensively designed to provide unparalleled opportunities for candidates with access to leading expertise, studio space and facilities.

Beginners can learn new essential techniques while developing the ability to articulate visual principles and concepts. Through a series of practical illustrations, we aim to prepare students with an artistic flair of craftmanship and elevate their creative talent to own and conceive original designs.

Course Outline

  • Learning about pencil lead and graphite /shapes and drawing formulas
    Drawing a basic still life in line with pencil
    Blind contour drawings and rough sketches of basic objects
  • Shading: basic still life with shapes, shading.- Everything needs to be white
    Still life with all white and one black object
    Still life with different objects
  • Introduction to colour pencils- usage and handling- fruits and vegetables
    Continued in next class.
    Prepare sheets for collage/ draw out still life
  • Still life with collage
    Introduction to oil pastels- slide presentation of different types of pastel handling/ demonstration
    Start still life with oil pastels
  • One more still life with oil pastels
    Continue.
    Introduction to water colours/ colour wheel/ making basic tones/ making greys / neutralizing tones
  • Still life with water colour
    Continued
    Landscape with water colours- complete as home work
  • Shadow drawing the figure
    Blind contour figure drawings quick sketches
    Working with following silhouettes
  • Drawing portraits with pencils

Duration: 3 Month
Course Dates: 16th March 2020 – 16th June 2020
Course Fee: Rs. 15,000/month
Course Days: Monday (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm)
Wednesday (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm)
Friday (3.00 pm – 5.00 pm)

Tutor Description

Artist, cultural practitioner art educator and curator, Masuma Halai Khwaja is currently on the advisory committee of the International Public Art Festival in Karachi. She was one of the founders and a trustee of The Karachi Biennale and Chair of its Public Outreach Committee for its 2017 edition. Khwaja has co-authored a book on public art in Karachi. A graduate of the National College of Arts, she has had 5 solo shows. Her work has been exhibited in four biennales and numerous international shows. She has also taught visual art at the Indus Valley School of Art and Architecture, (where she was also the thesis advisor for two years) and The Karachi University Visual Studies Department.
